According to several websites and bloggers, the iPad will be available for pre order Thursday, February 25, 2010. The original source for this rumor is here. There is no official word yet from Apple, but everyone is anxious to know when it will be available for pre order.
Some bloggers have speculated that this is a huge demand for the iPad, as is, while others have claimed that it will be a big flop, at least with the current pricing scheme. Others have been speculating of a very quick price drop with the iPad, just as Apple did with the iPhone when its initial sales were wanning. That took place only two months after the iPhone went on sale. To read more about the possible iPad price drop, read this article from PC World. Wouldn’t it be nice if they announce a price drop BEFORE the iPad goes on sale? For a breakdown of the actual cost to produce the iPad go here.
Price drop or no price drop, I will be pre ordering my iPad as soon as it becomes available. I am very excited to play with this new “toy”. It has yet to be determined how much of an impact it will have in K-12 or college education, but I have a strong feeling this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship between technology and education.
